# Custom shortcuts are not saved

## Observed behavior
When setting some shortcuts, they work fine but once the application is restarted, the changes made are not saved.
## Expected behavior
1. User Changes shortcuts
2. Shortcuts are stored
## Steps required to reproduce
1. User changes shortcuts
2. User closes app
3. User opens app
Shortcuts are not saved
## Operating system/Hardware used
Windows 10
Version 1.0.0-rc.26

I tried to reproduce the issue in some different variations, but so far haven’t been able to. Having said that, I did encounter two Linux-specific issues: shortcuts with modifier keys didn’t work properly and shortcuts weren’t saved after crash.
Since there was a similar issue recently ([Default shortcuts for setting ratings don't work](https://community.bildhuus.com/t/default-shortcuts-for-setting-ratings-dont-work/588), now fixed), I wonder if this is possibly related to the specific key combination of the shortcut. Do you have an example shortcut that didn’t work?
If neither a crash, nor a specific shortcut is responsible for this, are maybe application settings in general (e.g. the language selection) not saved?

Thanks for your quick response
What I am trying to do: set CTRL+D for “Deselect All” instead of “Invert Selection”
These are the steps I follow:
1. remove the setting of “Invert Selection” by pressing the reset button to the right (see screenshot)
2. set CTRL+D for “Deselect All”
3. Close app (no crash)
4. Open app
Shortcuts are not saved after restart
> are maybe application settings in general (e.g. the language selection) not saved?
Not sure how I can verify this, if you want more insight please share with me what I need to check and I’ll share
EDIT:
I also did a quick test on my macbook
I tried removing one of custom shortcut that I previously configured by pressing the reset button to the right, closed the app and opened it again.
The configuration was not updated.

Did you get the chance to test this with 1.0.0-rc.27? There is a fix included that sounds like it should apply here (“Fixed resetting custom shortcuts not being persisted”).

Okay, I tested again on macOS and it turned out fix in 1.0.0-rc.27 did in fact apply – but the other shortcut related fix (“Linux: Fixed some custom keyboard shortcuts not working due to extraneous modifier key constants being detected”), which I though was a fix for a pre-existing error was actually caused by a library update that was also part of 1.0.0-rc.27. Unfortunately, the fix misses some macOS specific aspects of the issue so that setting shortcuts got effectively broken with this release. The next release will have this fixed.

Hi Sönke,
unfortunately I am still facing issues with shortcuts, on both windows and mac
- custom shortcuts are not saved
- when trying to removing one existing _default_ shortcut, by pressing “backspace” or “delete” button, when the application is restarted, some issue is there.
example:
-manually remove the shortcut for “Duplicate” ,cmd+d
-set cmd+d to another action (“Invert Selection”)
-restart the app
→ after restart, “Invert Selection” is blank, and “Duplicate” has been replaced by something else

Okay turns out there is another special case here related to default shortcuts. The problem was that a cleared default shortcut was treated as a non-customized shortcut and not stored for that reason. I’ve fixed that for the next release and the use case above now works for me.
