Affinity 3 not detected automatically as an external editor, as was affinity 2, but I cannot find a link to it in windows program folders. Has anyone else come across this and if so how did you resolve it.
Regards to all
Ok. So I’ve found the affinity program but when I select it for adding as an external editor I get message, This file cannot be accessed by the system. However if I go into a file explorer there is no problem with starting affinity 3.
Problem solved, changed affinity installer from msix to exe.
I’ve added Affinity 3 to the database of auto-detected editors for the next release.
In general, the .exe installer works better than the .msix one, because it installs a normal .exe file. The .msix installer installs an app package instead, which is generally inaccessible to the user. There is a wrapper executable at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\WindowsApps\Affinity.exe (probably what you had also found), but that for example doesn’t include the application icon. Also, it apparently doesn’t play well with Window’s own file open dialog (I can confirm getting the file access error when attempting to manually pick the editor executable).
There are possible improvements to the support on our side, but for now using the .exe installer is the recommended way.
