Show people and face tags

I know facial recognition and tagging is on the roadmap. In the meanwhile, it would be helpful if Aspect would show people and face tags that already exist in the metadata. That way photos could be sorted and filtered by those tags inside Aspect, even if Aspect can’t yet create them itself.

I plan on using a separate program to do facial recognition and tagging for now but I still want to use Aspect for the rest of my sorting and organizing as it has a much better interface.

We actually have this planned as an intermediate step to automatic face detection (internal ticket #1308). There is another similar feature request for a specific metadata format: Compatibility with Tonfotos? (and Google Picasa)

Do you have a particular software in mind for the face recognition? Unfortunately, there are quite a few programs that don’t use the standard XMP metadata fields for this, so it might be necessary to implement a custom handler.

I’m still deciding between Peakto and Mylio Photos but both use Iptc4xmpExt:PersonInImage tags. Mylio Photos also adds mwg-rs:Regions tags.

For now, I’m writing a shell script that uses exiftool to copy the Iptc4xmpExt:PersonInImage tags to xmp-dc:subject tags so I can see them in Aspect.
