Sometimes Source files are moved, sometimes they are not

Sometimes Aspect moves files into its Library folder, sometimes it does not.
There appears to be no pattern.

I created 2 test folders:

A contains 24 GIF images
B contains 24 JPG images.

  • For Folder A, Aspect MOVED all the image files into the new Library folder.
  • For Folder B, Aspect LEFT all images in place without copying any of them.

I’ve run this test a number of times. Each time, whether the files are moved or left in place alternates. I can find no setting or import dialog to control this behavior. Am I missing something? Or does such control need to be added as a feature?

What did you do exactly to move/copy the folders/files into the library? Off the top of my head, these should be the different possibilities:

  • Add as a scanned folder - images should always stay in place
  • Import from within the application - possible to choose between move and copy
  • Drag files onto the photo stream navigation entry or into the photo stream center pane - should default to copy the files into the library, can be changed to move using modifier keys
  • Drag files onto an event - same as for photo stream
  • Drag a folder onto the navigation pane - creates a new event by copying the folder by default, modifier keys can be used to move instead, or to create a referenced event (files stay in place)
  • Drag a folder onto an event or photo stream - should behave exactly as if individual files would have been dragged

In case you used drag and drop, my suspicion would be that there is maybe something wrong with detecting the pressed modifier keys. I remember that there used to be an occasional issue where the application thought that the Cmd key was still pressed after switching between applications in a certain way.

When you use the folder browser at the bottom left of the application window and navigate into a folder from which you want to import photos, you can invoke the import dialog using the “Import into Library” button at the top right, see Importing Photos - Bildhuus Aspect. In the import dialog, you can then enable or disable the “Keep copies in source location” checkbox to control how they get imported. Alternatively, the import dialog can also be opened using File → Import Photos into Library.
