Version 1.0.0-preview.15

Hey everyone,

a new version of Aspect has been released: 1.0.0-preview.15. You’ll find the download links at the bottom of this post. Simply install over the existing installation to upgrade. The following changes and additions are included:


  • Dropping a folder on the navigation pane now uses the folder name as the initial event name
  • Improved performance of changing metadata through the metadata pane
  • The “in any collection” search expression now supports negation (“in no collection”)
  • Improved the photo stream header styling
  • Pressing the Alt key while changing the side bar size now changes the opposing side bar size symmetrically
  • Side bar widths are now stored in across program runs in the settings file
  • Added a setting to disable custom window frames on macOS to work around UI scaling issues with multiple monitors
  • Improved the progress indication while scanning the pictures folder in the library creation dialog

Bug fixes

  • Reworked the drag’n’drop implementation
    • Heavily improves performance for dragging many files at once
    • Fixes a crash on macOS Big Sur when dragging files for more than zero to two seconds
    • Fixes a crash on Windows when dragging many files at once for more than a few seconds
  • Fixes small jumps in the header transition when switching from photo stream to event and from event to local collection
  • Fix dropping folders containing only media files into the photo stream on macOS
  • Fixed a possible crash after deleting a file that is connected to other files (e.g. an XMP sidecar file)
  • Fixed pages sometimes scrolling upwards by a certain amount after switching to another page and back
  • Fixed recomputation of the event order after changing the date of contained images
  • Fixed an error occurring when moving connected files that do not contain a JPEG file to the photo stream (e.g. a raw photo with an XMP sidecar)
  • Fixed multiple libraries being checked in the library selection menu when a library was duplicated on the file system
  • Fixed a crash occurring when using the “in any collection” search expression with taxonomy collections present in the library
  • Fixed a horizontal scroll bar erroneously appearing in the metadata pane
  • Fixed placement of dialogs for mixed DPI monitor configurations
  • Fixed missing pixels around the window in full screen mode on Windows
  • Fixed refreshing of file thumbnails in the file browser after file changes
  • Fixed the library creation dialog being displayed when opening a library via command line
  • Fixed a crash happening for errors during library creation
  • Fixed text edit fields not displaying text on high-DPI displays
  • Fixed header size changes while changing thumbnail sizes using the thumbnail size slider
