Version 1.0.0-preview.29

Hey everyone,

a new version of Aspect has been released: 1.0.0-preview.29 (view blog post). You’ll find the download links at the bottom of this post. Simply install over the existing installation to upgrade.

Download

:paperclip: Windows installer
:paperclip: macOS bundle
:paperclip: Linux AppImage (experimental)

Please remember: Even though the software is reasonably stable at this point, always make a backup of your data, or work with a copy of it, when using pre-release software.

New features

  • DCIM, AVCHD and XAVC-S folder hierarchies are now recognized and handled appropriately during imports
  • Added experimental Metal rendering support on macOS - still produces some visual artefacts at this point
  • For JPEG files, there is now a new option to directly embed metadata contained in XMP sidecar files

Enhancements

  • Improved UI drawing performance for many visible elements
  • Added .mkv to the list of supported video extensions
  • Added remote sync/availability states for thumbnails

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the photo stream was empty after switching libraries
  • Fixed video decoding on Linux
  • Fixed color space conversion for introduction videos and some UI elements
  • Fixed an issue where identical sidecar files would get erroneously removed as duplicates during import
  • Fixed auto imports to keep sub folder hierarchies
  • Fixed a few synchronization issues occurring when moving an event to trash and performing changes at the same time on a different device

Feel free to leave any feedback here or in the bug reports sub forum. Thanks for helping to shape a new way of organizing photos!
