a new version of Aspect has been released: 1.0.0-preview.38 (view blog post). You’ll find the download links at the bottom of this post. Simply install over the existing installation to upgrade.

Please remember: Even though the software is reasonably stable at this point, always make a backup of your data, or work with a copy of it, when using pre-release software.
New features
- Ctrl/Cmd+click on an item in the collection pane will now apply the clicked item as a filter to the current view
- Added a new “rating” sorting mode
- Added a new “file size” sorting mode
- Photos can now be added to collections using the context menu
Enhancements
- Creating events from images in scanned folders now creates in-place event folders instead of managed events
- Managing scanned folders can now be accessed from the photo stream context menu
- Added a link to available search expressions to the auto-complete popup of the search bar
- Overly large popup menus can now be scrolled using the mouse wheel or using up/down buttons
- Reduced UI freezing when scanning the file system after large number of file changes
- Added a progress indicator to the metadata pane to provide better feedback for large selections of files
- The macOS version now features a standard window menu
- Improved the speed of decoding X-Trans RAW photos at full resolution
Bug fixes
- Fixed a crash occurring when attempting to write XMP metadata to the associated image when the image is part of a library
- Fixed a crash occurring for images that have an ISO speed ratings metadata field with no entries
- Fixed showing an empty “Shortcut” menu in the event context menu
- Fixed the local collection bar being empty in the photo stream
- Fixed menu entries being “sticky” when pressing and moving the mouse
- Fixed a possible hang in the crash reporter dialog caused by infinite window resize attempts
- Fixed the tool tip displayed when hovering over thumbnail metadata
- Fixed the date displayed on thumbnails when the capture date has been modified
- Fixed the metadata pane to possibly only store partial changes when performing more changes before all files have been saved
- Fixed a possible crash for images that have not been fully processed after an import, but have been moved to the trash
- Fixed an issue where closed windows stay visible in the macOS window menu
- Fixed an issue causing blank icons or image thumbnails when showing a dialog or the full screen image view
- Fixed artifacts occurring when decoding certain X-Trans RAW photos at reduced size
- Fixed the maximize button not being able to restore the window to normal on Linux
- Reduced the overhead of the “Synchronizing file system…” activity
- Fixed the “Synchronizing file system…” activity being triggered when not necessary
- The library list and some dialogs now display localized folder names (e.g. the “Pictures” folder is translated to the system language)
- Fixed a rare crash caused by wrong handling of conflicting file names
- Fixed the zoom state of images in details view to not reset when removing images from the current selection
- Fixed the action performed after pairing with an Aspect Sync app (browse/import)
- Fix crash happening when importing photos from the root of a volume
