Version 1.0.0-preview.5 released!

Hey everyone,

a new version of Aspect has been released: 1.0.0-preview.5. You’ll find the download links at the bottom of this post. Simply install over the existing installation to upgrade. The following changes and additions are included:

New features

  • Reworked the page transition system
    • Page transitions are more refined and more fluent
    • There are still some glitches left, mostly concerning the scroll position before/after the switch
  • Added a first-start introduction to the application (#465)
    • The introduction is shown when loading
  • Added a demo library - note that this does not represent the final state (#466)

Enhancements

  • Improved drawing and scrolling performance
  • Image analysis now runs on all CPU cores (#421)
  • The notification pane now shows a placeholder message when no notifications exist (#469)
  • The rename mode is now activated immediately after creating a new event from a selection of images, rather than waiting for all images to be moved
  • When importing a file that is a duplicate of a missing library file, that file now gets recovered from the imported file
  • Now displays a notice when browsing a folder that is part of an Aspect library (#453)
  • Improved application responsiveness for libraries that are stored on network drives
  • Improved initial window placement
  • Fixed a delay and possible duplicated menu content when opening the main menu on Windows/Linux
  • Now showing “Storing library” while closing a library

Bug fixes

  • Fixed the vertical alignment of the progress indicator in the import and add folder as event dialogs
  • Fixed a potential timing related crash when editing an image (#468)
  • Fixed possible failure to detect duplicates during import
  • Fixed sorting by aspect ratio for images that have a non-default orientation
  • Empty individual photos folders are now properly deleted when only empty sub folders or hidden files remain
  • Fixed a crash when a missing individual photos folder is manually restored in the file system
  • Fixed handling of moved and copied individual photos folders
  • Hidden files/folders, macOS auxiliary folders in particular, are now moved in the the system trash when deleting events, instead of being left over
  • Fixed a possible crash when importing files with “Keep import source” enabled
  • Fixed wrong keyboard focus after switching to details view and back to thumbnail view
  • Fixed the appearance of tab control headers and the navigation/drive panels when disabled
  • Fixed loading of HEIF images on macOS (#471)
