a new version of Aspect has been released: 1.0.0-rc.56 (view blog post). You’ll find the download links in the next section of this post. Simply install over the existing installation to upgrade.

Enhancements

  • When in fullscreen view, the details view resolution of the displayed image is not loaded anymore, improving performance when switching between images
  • The application now continues to load directly after sending a crash report instead of waiting for confirmation of the success dialog
  • Added a confirmation dialog when assigning a keyboard shortcut that is already in use for another action
  • When an externally created edit variant of an image is detected, more metadata fields are now restored
    • This avoiding date/time mismatches caused by certain applications that ignore the date/time that is stored in an existing XMP sidecar file
  • Before starting an import, the application now checks for sufficient disk space and alerts the user if necessary
  • Added a “Show in Folder” button to the duplicate detector dialog
  • The display doesn’t turn off anymore while a slide show in fullscreen mode is running
  • No toast label is shown anymore when setting a star rating via menu entry with no images selected
  • Scripting API: Added functions for getting/setting the thumbnail size
  • Collapsed folders in the event selection bubble are now remembered/restored
  • Implemented automatic recovery of the library catalog from the previously saved version in case the file goes missing
  • Affinity 3 is now automatically recognized as an external editor

Bug fixes

  • Fixed a rare crash happening when closing a (dialog or main) window
  • macOS: Fixed a crash caused by using unrecognized mouse buttons
  • Fixed a crash happening when starting an import from the import dialog after the library had been unloaded
  • Fixed a crash that happened when new files were detected in an event folder that then was immediately deleted
  • Fixed a crash that happened after a library lock failed after the system went into standby mode (e.g. because the library instance was loaded from a different computer in the meantime)
  • Fixed a rare timing related crash that happened in conjunction with a transition animation and a concurrent change in the number of displayed thumbnails
  • Fixed a crash that happened when attempting to open the event selector bubble with a refresh of the navigation pane happening at the same time
  • Fixed a possible crash in the event selection bubble that could happen when some scanned folders were not available in the currently loaded library instance
  • Fixed the area in which the tool bar at the bottom of the thumbnail view resides not letting through mouse clicks
  • Fixed an issue where a library clone operation could get interrupted by the system going into standby
  • Fixed loading of palette images with less than 8 bits per pixel
  • Linux: External HDDs are now properly detected and displayed as such
  • Fixed edit variants not being properly associated to the original directly after a library instance has been cloned
  • Fixed an issue where the scroll position is wrong after changing the thumbnail size while an entry of the collection bar is active
  • Fixed a possible crash when individual photo folders exist that are not available in the currently loaded library instance
  • Fixed an issue where it was possible for one device to alter device information of another device
  • Fixed horizontal lines for text editor fields in the metadata pane not being visible for the light theme
  • Fixed a possible issue leading to a library instance not being authorized for synchronization anymore
