First of all, thank you for the product. There really aren’t enough good photo managers.
I wanted to ask about the plans for some features, or maybe I couldn’t find them in the program:
Sub-events. I would like to use the event mechanism instead of collections and folders. But I don’t understand how I can create nested collections. For example, I have an event “Vacation Sep-2025”, within it there were events - “1-3 Sep - Trekking in the mountains”, “4- 9 Sep Rest on the river”, etc.
By the way, I still haven’t figured out how to use folders. Is there an explanation somewhere on how to use them in workflow?
Is it possible to quickly view (for example, by pressing a hotkey) the capture date of a photo in Fullscreen mode?
Is there any plan to add text descriptions to events/collections and the photos themselves? I’d like to store a few paragraphs of text for at least each event.
Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been getting behind a bit communication-wise.
Sub-events
We are considering a number of approaches for working on a sub-event folder organization level. These approaches will ideally be complementary, but we still have to work out the exact details:
Showing sub folders in the UI and adding means to create/manipulate folders - this mainly makes it possible to more conveniently use manually curated folders for organization. The “Folder/Capture Time” sorting mode can be used in conjunction with manually managed folders to accomplish a simple form of sub events.
Having the possibility to structure events with multiple, manually defined paragraphs that include a caption and an optional text has been a very early idea that we had. This would also solve the “text description” issue. We did not pursue this idea so far, because it did not quite align with the goal to cater to more professional needs first, but it is still up for discussion.
capture date of a photo in Fullscreen mode
Although the fullscreen view was originally just intended as a pure viewing tool, it is also clear that it is very for judging photos in an undisturbed environment. We don’t have this on the immediate roadmap, but mid-term, the fullscreen view will very likely be extended to be able to do most of what is possible in details view, including being able to display the metadata panel in some way.
text descriptions to events/collections and the photos themselves?
I’ll look into adding the possibility to display the “title” metadata field below each thumbnail. For collections and events it is already planned to add an optional description, as well as additional metadata that can be used to control the folder structure of the library.
Instant video playback.
This is planned, but the amount of work required for this is relatively high and the exact time frame for this is not yet clear. This will probably be a Windows- and macOS-only feature, due to the complex licensing situation around video codecs.
Overall, I’m expecting most of these points to be solved, or at least improved, within the coming year.
